On the weekend of September 5 and 6, 2020, the Italian freediver Pietro Antolini set two new world records for depth apnea in lake or fresh water for the World Underwater Federation (CMAS), by diving to -76 meters in the constant weight modality with bi-fins and -81 meters in constant weight with monofin, surpassing the previous records of -75 and -80 meters respectively, held by the Italian Michele Tomasi since September 2017.

The records were endorsed by an international CMAS freediving judge, present at the 2020 Italian Freediving Outdoor Championship of the Italian Federation of Sport Fishing and Underwater Activities (FIPSAS), held in Lake San Nicolò di Riva del Garda (TN).
